Kjell´s text for the exhibition “Endgame, frivolity”
After the exhibition “Image” in the spring of 2016, I received a number of paintings back.
The origin of their emergence was a leak in the studio 2016.
Which forced my activities in a reduced form to another location.
An empty room with high windows ….. nothing wants to show up.
Eventually, at least a simple thought floated up after persistent knocking.
The number three woke me up.
Funnily enough, limitations can have a beneficial effect on one’s work.
The simple starting point soon unleashed the desire to work.
Sketches with the number three as a defining factor then formed the basis for the paintings that were shown 2016.
To move forward during the fall, I wondered if there was anything useful in the paintings that had returned to the studio.
Perhaps a square could be used in a different way in a new context. If I consider it as an empty surface and apply signs to it, a new element is added to the work.
A drawing reduced to circles soon freed my imagination. White circular signs soon took up space on the square’s surface. A kind of proxy. The gravitational gravity of the plumb line did not always exist. The drawing sometimes invited a certain levity.
